Westminster Way temporary road closure

26th to 29th Sept, 7pm to 6am

In the interests of public safety, it will be necessary for Oxfordshire County Council to close the road and impose a ‘No Waiting’ restriction on Westminster Way to facilitate resurfacing of the carriageway and the subsequent reinstatement of all road markings and lines.

The temporary closure and will operate from 26 September 2022 up to and including 29 September 2022. TWorks will be via full road closures; 19:00-06:00hrs over 3 consecutive night-time shifts, starting Monday 26th September.

Resurfacing works stop short of the West Way shopping precinct and Premier Inn Car park.  Vehicular access will be maintained to the underground car park and hotel throughout. Pedestrian access will be unaffected throughout the entire site

The “No Waiting” restriction means that wherever there are in place yellow “No Waiting” cones, you will not be able to park vehicles on the highway.

Copies of the patching drawings showing the areas that will be carried out, as well as a copy of the agreed diversion route are found below.

The phasing of the works is as below:

Monday 26th September – Resurface btw A34 and Yarnells Hill including entire junction area with Harcourt Hill Road. Will be a lane closure on the A34 Northbound as well as full closure of Westminster Way.  Vehicular access to Harcourt Hill will be restricted.  Buses will use diversion route.

Tuesday 27th September – Resurface btw Yarnells Hill and B4044 Botley Road via a full closure. No TM on A34 though.  Access to the Harcourt Hill campus will be reopened although access/egress will only be directly out onto the A34 dual carriageway. Westminster Way will remain fully closed as a through-route. In essence, they will move further up to allow them to re-open the junction out onto the A34. Buses will therefore run to the campus but use the A34 to access Botley.

Wednesday 28th September – Works are simply lining and gully emptying. Still be via a full closure and access can be permitted in/out as required from the A34 junction throughout again.  Westminster Way will not be a through route, so traffic should join at the A34 and go up to the Botley interchange as per the previous night.
