A34 Overnight Closures for Road Marking Renewal

The A34 will be closed overnight between April and July at points including Botley.  Kier Highways, on behalf of Highways England, will be renewing the road markings along sections of the A34 north and southbound carriageways in Oxfordshire.  They will be closing the A34 overnight (9pm to 6am) in various places on the A34 for a few days at at time starting this week and continuing into July. The first area affected is from the M40 southbound to Peartree interchange. The Botley interchange is affected in May and July. See below for the full schedule.

Tuesday 23 April for four nights – A34 southbound carriageway from the M40 (junction 9) to the A44 Peartree Interchange with a signed diversion in place via A44, A40 and M40 for motorway permitted vehicles. A secondary diversion will be in place via the A44, Kirtlington, A4095 and Vendee Drive for vehicles which are restricted from using the motorway.

Monday 29 April for three nights – A34 northbound carriageway from the A423 Hinksey Hill junction to the A44 Peartree Interchange with a signed diversion via the Oxford ring-road

Tuesday 7 May – M40 junction 9 eastbound exit slip road and westbound entry slip road with a signed diversion in place via M40 junction 8a

Wednesday 8 May – M40 junction 9 westbound exit slip road and eastbound entry slip road with a signed diversion in place via M40 junction 10

Monday 13 May for four nights – A34 northbound carriageway from the A44 Peartree Interchange to the M40 (junction 9) with a signed diversion in place via A44, A40 and M40 for motorway permitted vehicles. A secondary diversion will be in place via the A44, Kirtlington, A4095 and Vendee Drive for vehicles which are restricted from using the motorway.

Wednesday 29 May for five nights – A34 northbound carriageway from the A4130 Milton Interchange to the A420 Botley Interchange with a signed diversion will go via A417, Wantage, A338 and A420. Road users wishing to join at Marcham or Abingdon north will be diverted via Marcham to pick up the main diversion at Frilford; Road users wishing to join at Hinksey Hill will be diverted via the Oxford ring-road to access the A34 at the Peartree Interchange

Monday 1 July for three nights – A34 southbound carriageway from the A44 Peartree Interchange to the A423 Hinksey Hill junction with a signed diversion via the Oxford ring-road

Monday 8 July for four nights – A34 southbound carriageway from the A420 Botley Interchange to the A4130 Milton Interchange with a signed diversion will go via A420, A338 to Wantage, and then the A417. Road users wishing to join at Marcham or Abingdon north will be diverted via Marcham to pick up the main diversion at Frilford; Road users wishing to join at Hinksey Hill will be diverted north to the Botley Interchange to pick up the main diversion.

Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles on blue light calls.

Please be aware that these works have been carefully programmed but are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances – please check the yellow signs placed in advance at the junction for confirmation of the closures dates/timings.
